It is important for all parents to keep away their child from obesity condition. This is particularly important because obesity is linked to the development of diabetes, heart disease, and cancers caused by or linked to unhealthy diet and lack of physical activity.
To help keep children at a healthy weight, parents should:
• avoid serving too much fruit juice or fruit juice drinks, which have lots of simple sugar
• not use food as a bribe, reward, or incentive for children
• not insist that children clean their plates. Instead, parents should reinforce the idea that they
should only eat when they are hungry.
• not completely eliminate all sweets and favorite snacks from an overweight child’s diet, which
could make a child overeat these forbidden foods outside the home
• schedule family meals together
• serve a variety of healthy foods in moderation
